It is reported that Dubai and Abu Dhabi could link their respective metro systems at the border between the two emirates.
Officials at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority said that they are considering extending the Red line of the Dubai Metro to the border where it would meet Abu Dhabi’s planned metro line.
A section of the Red line is scheduled to open in September, with the first phase of the city’s Green line to follow in March 2010.
The RTA has postponed work on the Purple line of the Dubai Metro while it re-evaluates the emirate’s rail needs. The US group Parsons Brinckerhoff is to carry out an integrated rail transit study for the emirate.
At the same time, about 70 companies have collected tender documents for the consultancy contract on the Abu Dhabi Metro project.
Abu Dhabi’s Transport department has set a provisional bid deadline of April for the metro’s consultancy contract.
